This page contains information about: Pregnancy Ultrasound timetable and the course fees.

This new and innovative program has been designed, piloted and developed by a team of obstetric ultrasound experts to train nurses, midwives and obstetricians in the safe use of ultrasound in the diagnosis of early pregnancy problems.

Course Details

The aims of the program are to:

1. Educate and train Sexual and Reproductive Health Clinical and EPAU staff in the safe and competent use of diagnostic ultrasound imaging in the visualisation and interpretation of basic gynaecology and early pregnancy problems.

2. Utilize ultrasound findings alongside patients medical history in making accurate and competent patient management decisions.

This intensive program is in three stages:

Stage 1:

A compulsory two day Seminar covering ultrasound physics, equipment, safety and quality assurance, and an introduction to pelvic ultrasound anatomy and pathology using lectures and demonstrations.

Stage 2:

Six Master-classes in a clinical setting where experts will teach delegates in small groups the essential ultrasound skills using 'normal' subjects and patients with demonstrable pathology.

This is optional.  If you already have a supervised clinical placement in your workplace, there is no need to register for Stage 2.

Stage 3:

Students who have completed the stage 2 supervised training may present for assessment of their competency leading to accreditation.

All delegates must attend the introductory two day Seminar. Thereafter, delegates may choose to do all or some of the Master-classes. On successful completion of the program, delegates may transfer to an MSc in Gynaecology/Obstetric Ultrasound.
