Course Details

This innovative program has been designed, piloted and developed by a team of musculoskeletal ultrasound experts to train a range of healthcare professionals in the safe use of ultrasound in the diagnosis of musculoskeletal conditions.

CASE

Course approved by:

SOCAP (The Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists)

CASE (Consortium for the Accreditation of Sonographic Education)

BIMM

In association with the British Institute of Musculoskeletal Medicine (BIMM)

Aim

The aim of the program is to educate and train musculoskeletal practitioners in the safe and competent use of diagnostic ultrasound imaging in the visualization and interpretation of musculoskeletal conditions. Specifically, the program will train practitioners in the safe and accurate acquisition of ultrasound images in the examination of musculoskeletal conditions, and in using these images together with the medical history in making accurate and competent patient management decisions.

This intensive program is in two stages:

Stage 1:

A compulsory seminar covering ultrasound physics, equipment safety and quality assurance. An introduction to regional ultrasound anatomy and pathology using lectures and demonstrations on models and patients.

Stage 2:

Two one-day regional Tutorial/Master-classes where experts will teach delegates in small groups the essential ultrasound skills using 'normal' subjects and patients with demonstrable pathology.

Each tutorial/master-class will include prosection of relevant anatomical specimens, 3D anatomy modeling and practical demonstrations of equipment and scanning skills.

All delegates must attend the introductory two day seminar. Thereafter, delegates may choose to do all or some of the tutorial/Master-classes.

  • On completion of the program, delegates may transfer to an MSc in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (lower limb).
  • For direct entry onto the MSc in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound, further details can be obtained from the CUS website.
